Drain cleaning in Damascus and Montgomery County
A slow sink is an annoyance. A floor drain full of dirty water is a problem. Our drain cleaning in Damascus, MD clears the clog and then we look inside the line, so you know whether it will come back.

When a drain needs more than a plunger
Most clogs give you a warning or two before they stop a drain completely. These are the ones worth a call.
- 01
More than one drain is slow
One slow sink is usually a local clog. When the tub, the toilet and the sink all slow down together, the blockage is further down, in the main line.
- 02
Water comes up the floor drain
The basement floor drain is the lowest opening in the house. If wastewater shows up there, the main line is blocked and the next flush makes it worse.
- 03
Gurgling after you flush or run the washer
Air trapped behind a partial clog has to go somewhere, so it bubbles back up through the nearest fixture.
- 04
The same clog keeps coming back
A clog that returns every few weeks means the last cleaning punched a hole through it instead of clearing the pipe wall, or there is damage behind it.
- 05
A sewer smell near a drain
Standing water that cannot drain starts to smell. So does a trap that has dried out, which is the easy fix.
- 06
Water drains, but slowly, from the kitchen
Kitchen lines collect grease that hardens along the pipe wall. It narrows a little every month until one day it closes up.
What drain cleaning actually involves
Drain cleaning means getting a tool into the line and removing whatever is blocking it. For a sink or tub that is usually a small cable machine that feeds a spinning cable through the trap and breaks up hair and soap. For the main line it is a larger machine with cutting heads that go in through the cleanout, the capped pipe outside or in the basement that gives straight access to the sewer lateral.
Clearing the clog is only half the job. A cable can punch a hole through a blockage and leave most of it stuck to the walls, and it cannot tell you why the clog formed. That is why we follow a main line cleaning with a look inside. If the camera shows roots at a joint or a belly where waste settles, you will hear about it, along with what it would take to fix.
When the pipe wall is coated in grease or scale, a cable is not enough. That is where hydro jetting comes in, which scours the whole pipe instead of opening a path through the middle.
What we will not do is pour chemicals down your line. Store bought drain openers sit on the clog, heat up and can soften older pipes and fittings. If you have already used one, tell us before we start so nobody gets splashed.
How a drain cleaning visit goes
Most visits are straightforward. Here is the order we work in, so there are no surprises.
- 1
We ask where it started
Which drains are slow, what you noticed first, and whether it has happened before. That tells us whether we are chasing a fixture clog or a main line blockage.
- 2
We pick the right access point
For a main line we use the cleanout whenever there is one, because it gives a straight run at the sewer without pulling a toilet.
- 3
We clear the line
A cable machine with the right head for the job, or hydro jetting when the pipe wall itself is coated.
- 4
We run water and check the flow
We run the fixtures and watch the drain keep up before we call it clear.
- 5
We look inside on main line calls
A camera pass shows what caused the clog. You can watch the screen with us.
- 6
We tell you what we found
If it was a one-off, great. If there are roots, a sag or broken pipe, you get the options and an honest idea of how urgent it is.
Cable, jetting or camera first
Each tool has a job. Using the right one is the difference between a clog that stays gone and one that is back next month.
| Method | Best for | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Cable machine | Hair, soap, paper and single clogs in sinks, tubs and the main line | Opens a path but can leave grease and scale on the walls |
| Hydro jetting | Grease, sludge, heavy buildup and fine roots across the whole pipe | Needs a sound pipe, so we check badly damaged lines first |
| Camera inspection | Clogs that keep coming back and anything that smells like a bigger problem | Finds the cause, does not clear the line on its own |
What affects the price of drain cleaning
We give you a price before the work starts. These are the things that move it up or down.
Read the full cost guide- Which drain
- A bathroom sink and a main sewer line are very different jobs, with different machines.
- Access
- An outside cleanout is the easy way in. No cleanout can mean going through a toilet or a roof vent.
- What the clog is
- Soft clogs clear fast. Roots and hardened grease take longer and sometimes call for jetting.
- Whether it needs a camera
- A recurring clog or a main line backup is worth a look inside, and that is part of the visit.
At home and at work
For homeowners
For homes, most calls are a kitchen line slowed by grease or a main line backing into the basement floor drain. We work carefully indoors, protect the floor around the drain, and leave the area cleaner than we found it.
Residential servicesFor businesses and property managers
Restaurants, offices and apartment buildings share drain lines between a lot of users, so small problems spread fast. We can schedule around your hours and set up regular cleaning for lines that load up with grease.
Commercial servicesWhy a cleanout matters
Plenty of older houses were built without an outside cleanout, which makes every main line cleaning harder than it needs to be. When we replace a section of sewer line we can add one, like the one in the photo at the top of this page, so the next time is quick and does not involve pulling a toilet.
Questions we hear about drain cleaning
If more than one fixture is slow, or water comes up the basement floor drain or the lowest shower when you flush, the blockage is almost always in the main line rather than one pipe.
We would rather you did not. Those products rarely clear a real clog, they can harm older pipes, and they make the job more dangerous for whoever opens the line next. If you already used some, let us know when you call.
Usually because the cleaning opened a hole through the blockage without clearing the pipe wall, or because something like roots or a sag keeps catching debris. A camera inspection answers that question in a few minutes.
A single fixture is often done within an hour. A main line with roots or heavy grease takes longer, especially if we add a camera pass at the end.
Yes. Commercial kitchen lines collect grease quickly, and we can set up a regular cleaning schedule so they do not back up during service.
Stop running water in the house, especially the washer and dishwasher. If sewage has come up a floor drain, keep kids and pets away from it and do not try to mop it into the drain.
